Meetings & Conferences

About BIRAs meetings

BIRAs holds 3-4 Scientific meetings each year, usually in the spring, summer, autumn and winter. They are organized by members of the Association and their colleagues, and not exclusively by Committee members. It is an explicit policy of the Association to give "local" organizers every possible freedom to decide the detailed arrangements and style of their meeting, so that a variety of formats can be included in the programme. BIRAs attempts to achieve a reasonable geographic spread of its meetings across the UK.

BIRAs also wishes to encourage the presentation of posters at meeting and all organisers should take this into account when arranging and advertising meetings. Where possible, abstracts of posters will be published on this web site, associated with the relevant meeting. In some cases publication in journals may also be possible.

In recent years the winter meting has been a one day session held the British Society for Immunology Annual Congress (see BSI web site for more details). This is either a purely BIRAs event, or organised with one of the BSI subgroups or another society.

The Winter scientific meeting each year is normally immediately followed by the Association's Annual General Meeting. It is felt that having the BIRAs Winter meeting at the BSI offers the potential for attracting the most members of BIRAs, and thus permit a maximum attendance of BIRAs members at the AGM.

If you wish to organise, collaborate in the organisation of, or otherwise be involved in, organising a BIRAs meeting please contact the Meeting Secretary.

Next IAIS Meeting

BIRAs is a member of the International Association of Inflammation Societies (IAIS) which was inaugurated in 1988, initially as a forum for co-operation between BIRAs, the American Inflammation Research Association (IRA) and the European Workshop on Inflammation (EWI). Since then, other inflammation societies worldwide, e.g. the European Inflammation Society (EIS), the Japanese Inflammation Society (JIS), GREMI (Groupe de Recherche et d'Etude des Mediateurs de l'Inflammation, France), the Canadian Inflammation Society and the International Ocular Inflammation Society have affiliated to the IAIS. It is hoped that others will join.

The IAIS organise, through it's respective member inflammation associations, a biannual international inflammation meeting (previous meetings given below in the list of BIRAs meetings).

The next meeting is:
